Hi, have you wondered how a song gets written, recorded and produced? I've been asked that quite a bit.
Actually, I have my own way of working. Most often I write and record at the same time. I have a direction in mind in which I want to steer the song, but in fact a lot of my songs get written based on what I already recorded. Often I can imagine another instrument when I listen to the work in progress. Then I figure out what it should do and record it at the same time.
In 2018 I worked on a theatre play called Filthy Business for the Auckland Theatre Company and had to come up with rock and pop music from 1970s Britain. That era of music is right up my alley, so it wasn't that hard for me. I made a little video while I was working on one of the main songs. It's an interesting look behind the scenes.
