Have you recently watched a big Hollywood blockbuster? Chances are high that the soundtrack for it was written by Hans Zimmer. He's a master of his craft and manages to draw you in with the soundscapes he creates. They can be delicate or bombastic, but always have something intriguing about them.
I had the great pleasure to interview him while he was on tour, bringing some of his scores to New Zealand stages. Click here to watch the interview.
I've been following his career for a long time and a lot of his music is among my favourite soundtracks. I mean, how cool is his music for Dune? He won an Oscar for it! Or his church organ dominated music for Interstellar? Or his music for the other Christopher Nolan films like the Batman trilogy? Or how about Gladiator? Lion King? The list is too long. They are definitely worth a listen.
Over the last thirty years or so he has followed his own path and created a musical identity that has inspired many other composers.
I've certainly been inspired by his music, but more importantly by his attitude to do things your own way.
We talked about all that, which made for an entertaining interview. He also gives a fascinating insight into his work. You can watch it right here.
Enjoy,
Adrian.
